
A 45-year-old man from Caroline County was found trying to break into a business in Fredericksburg around 3:30 a.m. on April 29, the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office reported.
Police were tipped off by a commercial alarm triggered in the 3500 block of Shalaby Way. The Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrived within minutes and saw a man wearing a mask trying to break into a business.

When the man, later identified as Steven Tankersley III, saw the deputies, he ran but was reportedly caught after a brief foot chase.
The Sheriff’s Office said a K9 was dispatched to the scene and conducted an article search that led to the recovery of multiple items Tankersley allegedly tossed while trying to get away.
Tankersley is currently being held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
He has been charged with:
• Attempted Commercial Burglary
• Possession of Burglary Tools
• Wearing a Mask in Public
• Obstruction of Justice
