Patrick County Calls in Armored Vehicle for Standoff With Alleged Shooter

A 72‑year‑old man allegedly shot into two homes in the middle of the night, then engaged in an hour‑long standoff in his own residence, Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith reported. At about 3:30 a.m. on June 9, the Patrick County Sheriff’s Office received a shots‑fired call in the area of Mountain View Loop. Responding deputies found that shots had been fired into two occupied homes. In one residence, a bullet struck close to where a 3‑year‑old was sleeping, Smith stated. Church Treasurer Charged for Embezzlement in Mathews

Kevin C. Hogge, of Diggs, has been arrested for embezzling money from Salem Church. According to Mathews County Sheriff’s Office, church leaders reported suspicious financial activity involving the church treasurer in January. After a months-long investigation, MCSO reported finding numerous instances of forged checks and suspects over $70,000 was embezzled. The 55-year-old was arrested June 9, and is facing two counts of embezzling checks and two counts of forgery. Hogge was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond. Portsmouth Police reported two arrests stemming from a call regarding men in a parking lot with guns. Around 8:43 p.m. on June 7, officers responded to a parking lot on Navajo Trail where it was reported that men were “handling” guns. Upon arrival, police allegedly saw two men attempting to hide the guns, which were recovered. The officers were suspicious of other criminal offenses and requested a K‑9 for an open‑air sniff. FBI: Alleged Carroll County Cop Shooter Captured

According to Carroll County Sheriff Kevin Kemp, on May 29, his office received a request from a family member to conduct a welfare check on Fancy Gap Highway in Cana.
