A former Greensville Correctional Center officer was arrested and charged with assault and battery.

According to VADOC, the charge stems from an incident on May 25, 2026, when Cortraez Terry, a sergeant, was witnessed by staff repeatedly punching a restrained inmate.

Terry admitted to the assault, said VADOC, and he was immediately terminated.

On September 15, 2026, Greensville County Commonwealth’s Attorney Robin Quinn authorized an arrest warrant. The following day, Terry was served the warrant at the Greensville County Sheriff’s Department for the Class 1 misdemeanor.

“The men and women of the VADOC do a great job daily providing public safety in our facilities,” said VADOC Director Joseph W. Walters. “The VADOC does not condone any abuse or excessive use of force and will hold any staff member accountable for acting in ways that are not in alignment with the values and principles of the VADOC.”
