Congressman Rob Wittman Issues Statement on VA-01 Loss

Congressman Rob Wittman, who is now serving his 10th term as the U.S. House Representative for Virginia’s 1st District, has acknowledged his loss to challenger Shannon Taylor.

Here is his complete statement:

“While the outcome of this election is not what we had hoped for, I am profoundly grateful for the trust and confidence the people of Virginia’s First District have placed in me for nearly two decades.

“Kathryn and I want to thank our family, friends, campaign staff, volunteers, and the thousands of Virginians who worked tirelessly throughout this campaign. Your dedication, friendship, and unwavering support have meant more to us than words can express.

“I congratulate Shannon Taylor on her election and wish her success in representing the people of Virginia’s First District. The responsibility of public service is greater than any one election or individual, and I hope she will always put the needs of our communities first.

“From my earliest days serving on the Montross Town Council to my time in the Virginia House of Delegates and the United States Congress, I have been guided by a simple belief: public service is about the people we represent and the communities we call home.

“Throughout my time in Congress, I have worked to strengthen our national defense, support our service members, veterans, and military families, protect the Chesapeake Bay and our natural resources, strengthen our economy, and expand opportunities for future generations. I am proud of the work we have accomplished together and the relationships we have built across the First District.

“Virginia’s First Congressional District is more than a place on a map to me. It is where I grew up, where Kathryn and I raised our family, and where we have built a lifetime of friendships and memories. The people of the Northern Neck, Middle Peninsula, Virginia Peninsula, and Richmond suburbs have welcomed us into their homes, shared their concerns, celebrated their successes, and entrusted me with the privilege of being their voice in Washington. That is an honor I will never take for granted.

“Although my time representing the First District in Congress will come to an end, my commitment to Virginia and the communities I love will not. I will continue serving the people of the First District through the remainder of my term, just as I have always sought to do, with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to public service.

“To everyone who has supported me over the years, thank you. It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve you.

“God bless Virginia, and God bless the United States of America.”
