Police say the driver refused repeated commands to exit the vehicle and then attempted to drive away, dragging an officer in the process. The officer fired their weapon, striking the driver, who has not yet been identified. The driver suffered a life‑threatening gunshot wound, was taken to a hospital, and was later pronounced dead.
The officer who discharged their weapon was also transported to the hospital with non‑life‑threatening injuries.
NPD says all officers involved have been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation.
