Amherst County Sheriff L.J. Ayers announced that an active investigation is underway and multiple agencies are coordinating to bring closure to the 2022 murder of T’Khira Monique Browley.
Browley, also known as “Cakes,” was shot on March 19, 2022, during a birthday party at 351 Old Wright Shop Road in Madison Heights at about 2 a.m.

This month, Sheriff Ayers said representatives from the FBI, Lynchburg Police Department, and Virginia State Police are assisting his office, noting that their coordinated effort involves making contact both locally and outside the area.
“There have been some new developments in the case, to include physical evidence and eyewitnesses coming forward to share information from the scene that morning,” the sheriff said in a statement.
Ayers said he is asking the community—“that we know has additional information”—to come forward.
To help encourage cooperation, $30,000 in rewards is being offered, including $10,000 from the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office and another $20,000 from the FBI for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the responsible party.
“T’Khira was a beautiful young lady with her entire life ahead of her. She was the mother of twin boys who were 15 months old at the time of her death,” Ayers said. “These little boys deserve to know who killed their mother. Again, those of you who have additional information, do the right thing.”
