A state trooper was injured in a juvenile‑driven high‑speed chase in Northern Virginia early Wednesday morning, a chaotic pursuit that began with a stolen‑vehicle alert and escalated into a dangerous, multi‑county chase.

Virginia State Police say the incident started around 1:21 a.m. on July 22, when troopers were notified of a stolen vehicle heading south on I-395 in Fairfax County. Several troopers located the vehicle on I‑95 just south of the Mixing Bowl and attempted a traffic stop.

The driver refused to pull over, launching a pursuit that quickly pushed speeds beyond 130 mph.

The chase continued southbound until the suspect exited I‑95 at Exit 150, where the stolen vehicle struck an uninvolved driver.

Troopers attempted a maneuver on Minnieville Road to stop the car, but the suspect continued fleeing and returned to I‑95, this time heading north.

Troopers tried to box the vehicle in. The juvenile driver responded by ramming a trooper’s cruiser, forcing it into the jersey wall.

The suspect vehicle traveled another 100 yards before finally coming to a stop.

The driver, a juvenile from Maryland, was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for evaluation. After being released, he was taken to Fairfax County Juvenile Intake and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, assault on a law enforcement officer, and eluding.

Four passengers — an 18‑year‑old and three juveniles — were released.

The trooper whose vehicle was rammed was taken to the hospital, treated for minor injuries, and released.

An investigation remains underway.
