A 16-year-old boy was shot in Spotsylvania County Monday evening, and a 15-year-old suspect was arrested shortly after. According to the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 6:30 p.m. on September 15 to the 10900 block of Taney Drive in Salem Fields following reports of a shooting. Two adults and a juvenile are facing charges in Patrick County for a severe attack of a 17-year-old on March 21st. According to Patrick County Sheriff, Dan Smith, the teenage victim was at a friend’s home in Elamsville. Freddie Lee Kendrick Jr, 22, and Amber Mary Kendrick, 24, went to pick up a 15-year-old and the three went to the victim’s location. Youngkin signs law stripping police power to chain children in court

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin joined the state’s lawmakers in deciding enough is enough when it comes to making it common practice to usher children into court in chains. Virginia law currently allows police departments to keep any and all children physically restrained during their court proceedings. Identical bills sailed through Virginia’s House and Senate with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle agreeing the practice needs to be limited to select instances. Even then, the court needs to make the final determination. Youngkin added his endorsement to the need for change, signing the legislation into law.
