Alexandria Deputy Charged for Drug Smuggling

The Alexandria Sheriff’s Office (ASO) has arrested one of its own on drug-related charges. Former deputy Amarachukwu Igwe was allegedly caught attempting to smuggle narcotics into the Alexandria Adult Detention Center on April 4. According to ASO, her intent was to provide the drugs to an inmate. Authorities took Igwe into custody before any narcotics were delivered to the intended recipient or entered the facility’s general population. Igwe was transported to the Arlington County Detention Facility for processing. She faces the following charges: Delivery of drugs to prisoners Conspiracy to deliver drugs to prisoners Possession of a Schedule III controlled substance Igwe joined the Sheriff’s Office on July 14, 2025. VSP Searching for Leads in Fatal Hit-and-Run in Alexandria

At approximately 6:12 a.m. this morning, March 24, Virginia State Police reported getting dispatched for a pedestrian on Interstate 395.  According to VSP, when troopers arrived on the scene, a pedestrian was in the center lane of the northbound side of the interstate dead. The individual was found near the exit for Duke Street. VSP has not released any details about the deceased individual and said they are still working on the identity. A Philadelphia man has been extradited to Virginia in connection with a 2024 burglary at the Aeropostale store at Leesburg Premium Outlets. According to Leesburg Police, officers responded to the store around 5:15 a.m. on November 23, 2024, after receiving a burglary report. They arrived to find the front door’s glass shattered and an undisclosed number of items stolen. The driver accused of ramming a Virginia State Trooper during a pursuit across state lines on December 29 was identified as Naturi Michon Hayes of Elkridge, MD. Shortly before midnight a Virginia State Trooper was informed of a stolen vehicle in Alexandria. The trooper attempted to make a traffic stop but the driver’s refusal started a pursuit, according to VSP.
