Leesburg Uses Data Center Revenue to Buy Historic Site

The Town of Leesburg has officially closed on its purchase of Rock Spring Farm, a 13‑acre property listed on both the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register. The Town Council voted on March 10 to purchase the property, located within Leesburg’s Old & Historic District, for $5.75 million. In April, the council approved a funding package that drew equally from two sources: $2.88 million from the town’s data center computer equipment tax reserve and $2.88 million from the Utilities Fund. Two people are dead, including a man fatally shot by police, after an officer‑involved shooting early Monday at an apartment complex on Canterbury Square in Alexandria. Officers were dispatched around 4 a.m. to 27 Canterbury Square after a 911 caller reported that a female had been shot inside the apartment. When officers arrived, a family member was standing near the doorway and was immediately removed from the scene for safety. Alexandria Deputy Charged for Drug Smuggling

The Alexandria Sheriff’s Office (ASO) has arrested one of its own on drug-related charges. Former deputy Amarachukwu Igwe was allegedly caught attempting to smuggle narcotics into the Alexandria Adult Detention Center on April 4. According to ASO, her intent was to provide the drugs to an inmate. Authorities took Igwe into custody before any narcotics were delivered to the intended recipient or entered the facility’s general population. Igwe was transported to the Arlington County Detention Facility for processing. VSP Searching for Leads in Fatal Hit-and-Run in Alexandria

At approximately 6:12 a.m. this morning, March 24, Virginia State Police reported getting dispatched for a pedestrian on Interstate 395.  According to VSP, when troopers arrived on the scene, a pedestrian was in the center lane of the northbound side of the interstate dead. The individual was found near the exit for Duke Street. VSP has not released any details about the deceased individual and said they are still working on the identity. The driver accused of ramming a Virginia State Trooper during a pursuit across state lines on December 29 was identified as Naturi Michon Hayes of Elkridge, MD. Shortly before midnight a Virginia State Trooper was informed of a stolen vehicle in Alexandria. The trooper attempted to make a traffic stop but the driver’s refusal started a pursuit, according to VSP.
