17-year-old charged with murder in Stafford

A 17-year-old is in custody after a fatal shooting on Hulls Chapel Rd., Stafford Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

Just after 11 p.m. on Sept. 4, SCSO said the office received numerous calls about a shooting. Callers stated that a man was shot and the suspect was fleeing in a Mustang.

According to SCSO, First Sergeant D.W. Fetterolf and Deputy M.N. Sayegh were first to turn onto Hulls Chapel Road, and they saw a Mustang fleeing the area. The officers stopped the car, detained the driver, a 17-year-old who reportedly had a gun in his possession.

Three other deputies responded to the residence where the shooting occurred, and SCSO said they found a 42-year-old Stafford man, Jose Cruz Del Cid, who had been shot once.

The officers attempted performing life-saving measures until Fire and Rescue arrived. But their efforts weren’t successful, and Cid died at 11:25 p.m., said SCSO.

In the lead up to the incident, Cid was arguing with another family member and the 17-year-old got involved and shot Cid, SCSO said its investigation revealed.

That teenager, who hasn’t been named, is charged with 2nd degree murder and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
