Virginia State Police looking for lost airplane door that prompted emergency landing

UPDATE: Virginia State Police announced the door was found in a farm field in Purcellville later on April 5. No injuries were reported. The investigation continues. Authorities are searching for the door an airplane that was reportedly ripped off causing an emergency landing. Around 9 a.m. this morning, April 5, Daniel O’Brien was flying near the Round Hill area of Loudoun County in a two-seater when the cockpit door was reportedly ripped off. The 63-year-old pilot was able to land the fixed wing single-engine aircraft safely at the Leesburg Airport without injury, VSP reported. The NTSB and FAA were notified. Investigations after plane crashes in Fluvanna killing 2

A twin-engine plane that left Manassas Regional Airport Sunday morning crashed in Fluvanna killing the pilot and his passenger. According to Virginia State Police, shortly before 9 a.m., 911 calls started coming in from residents in the 200 block of Miles Jackson Rd. in Palmyra. They reported a low-flying plane and noise described as sounding like an explosion. The Fluvanna County Sheriff's Office, Virginia Conservation Police, and VSP responded to the area to search for wreckage. The downed plane was located in a densely wooded area off Miles Jackson Rd. and was on fire, State Police reported. Virginia Beach pilot runs off runway in Chesapeake

Virginia State Police were called to investigate a plane crash at Hampton Roads Executive Airport in Chesapeake yesterday. The incident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. James M. Biggs of Virginia Beach was piloting a Cessna 170A when, according to VSP, he lost control of the aircraft and ran off the airstrip. The plane ended up in the grass on its side with a damaged wing and landing gear. No passengers were reported, and VSP said Biggs was not injured. VSP did not announce any charges and has not yet disclosed details about a possible cause. Chesapeake Fire also responded to the scene. Emergency landing on Friday is second in Loudoun in a week

Friday, January 26, marked the second emergency landing in Loudoun County within in a week. The latest incident occurred shortly after 5 p.m. at Leesburg Executive Airport. A Pilatus PC12 was coming in to the airport when the landing gear failed to fully extend, according to Leesburg Police Department. The pilot was able to safely land the plane in the grass just off the tarmac. Leesburg PD said six passengers were onboard, and no injuries were reported. Plane makes emergency landing on highway in Northern VA

An investigation is underway after a single-engine Cessna  208 Caravan plane made an emergency landing on Loudoun County Parkway in Sterling near Arcola Mills Drive. Virginia State Police reported that it was notified that the emergency landing was occurring at 12:51 p.m. FAA records show the aircraft, owned by Southern Airways Pacific based in Palm Beach, FL, took off only minutes before from Dulles International Airport and was headed to Lancaster, PA, ABC 7 News reported. Plane crash near airport in Fauquier kills Bealeton pilot

State and federal authorities are investigating a plane crash that occurred Sunday shortly before 4 p.m. in Fauquier County, claiming the life of a 62-year-old Bealeton, VA man. Virginia State Police reported Simmie Adams was flying a single-engine 1975 Beechcraft plane when it crashed near the intersection of Midland Rd. and Ebenezer Church Rd, which is near the Warrenton-Fauquier Regional Airport.
