Man dead at Courtland Inn after police receive threat of self-harm call

The Norfolk Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will be conducting a death investigation involving a man who appears to have shot himself at the Courtland Inn on Jerusalem Rd., Southampton Sheriff’s Office confirmed. The incident began shortly after 3 p.m. yesterday when a call came in reporting a man made a threat to harm himself to one of his family members, the Sheriff's Office stated. When police arrived at the scene, no one answered the door of the room where the man in question was believed to be and no one was able to contact him, the Sheriff’s Office stated. Deputies planned to enter the room to verify if the man was in there and to see if he needed any medical attention so they obtained a key from motel staff. Franklin, VA man wanted for robbery, police trying to identify 2 others

Southampton police are looking for 24-year-old Dalveon Ricks of Franklin who is wanted for charges related to an April 4 robbery in Courtland. Police responded to a robbery call in the 25000 block of Oak Trail and found a woman who reported getting robbed in the parking lot of the apartment complex by three men. SCSO said the victim’s purse, credit cards, and cash were stolen. The police also said the woman was physically assaulted and suffered a minor injury.Detectives identified one of the suspects as Ricks. Man appears to have mental issues, dies in Greensville police chase

On Friday, Nov. 10, VSP was called out at about 7:21 a.m. to assist the Greensville Sheriff’s Department with a disturbance at the Simmon’s Travel Center in Emporia. At the scene, VSP reported finding Lashone Antonio Butler doing things, including urinating in the roadway and climbing on vehicles. After he was identified, police say, he ran away from Simmon’s Travel Center, got into a Kia Optima, and drove off. Greensville Sheriff’s Office pursued Butler, VSP stated, and the chase went through the City of Emporia, onto Rt. 58 and then Rt. 35. The pursuit ended on Ivor Rd in ...
