Man dead at Courtland Inn after police receive threat of self-harm call
The Norfolk Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will be conducting a death investigation involving a man who appears to have shot himself at the Courtland Inn on Jerusalem Rd., Southampton Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
The incident began shortly after 3 p.m. yesterday when a call came in reporting a man made a threat to harm himself to one of his family members, the Sheriff's Office stated.
When police arrived at the scene, no one answered the door of the room where the man in question was believed to be and no one was able to contact him, the Sheriff’s Office stated. Deputies planned to enter the room to verify if the man was in there and to see if he needed any medical attention so they obtained a key from motel staff.
