Federal agents detaining men at courthouse not a raid, Albemarle Sheriff says

An incident Tuesday morning at the Albemarle courthouse, where two men were detained by federal agents, sparked outrage and confusion. The event, partially captured on video, showed one of the men being led from the courthouse in handcuffs by men in plain clothes who placed him in an unmarked SUV and left.   One of the outlets reporting on the incident, 29 News-WVIR Charlottesville, said witnesses described the scene as "unusual" and "alarming," particularly because the agents reportedly did not produce identification or warrants when questioned. ICE warns of taking immigration enforcement in DC & VA ‘extremely seriously’

ICE Washington DC warned it’s taking the immigration enforcement mission in D.C. and Virginia “extremely seriously.” That statement came along with the announcement that seven illegal aliens were arrested in Northern Virginia on Feb. 5 during a joint effort between the Washington DC divisions of ICE and the FBI in Annadale. Information from ICE show that one of those arrested in Annadale was previously deported, a 51-year-old Mexican national convicted of DWI in Prince William last April. One, a 22-year-old Salvadoran, had been apprehended before for illegally entering the U.S. in June 2019. Dennis Zeledon Hernandez, the Salvadorian man who escaped from Caroline Detention Facility (CDF), was sentenced last Wednesday. But he’s adding to his lengthy legal tennis match with the federal government by filing an appeal. Early years in U.S. Court records show Zeledon Hernandez has a history with the feds that dates back to July 2016 when ICE officials found him near the border in Hidalgo, TX. At that time, he claimed to fear gang members in El Salvador. An asylum officer found he demonstrated credible fear of persecution, and he was served with a Notice to Appear that warned that failure to appear may result in a removal order and arrest, the records state.
