A 22-year-old Williamsburg man has been sentenced to federal prison after admitting he sent images of child sexual abuse to a Williamsburg police officer in a threatening email. On February 14, while on duty, “Police Officer 1” asked Xavier Stafford to move his vehicle off private property. The following day, the officer again requested that Stafford move his vehicle. The man shot and killed by James City County Police officers on March 30 was identified as 57-year-old James Andrew Evans of Dehaven Court in Williamsburg. On January 31, shortly after 2 p.m., JCCPD officers responded to Diascund Reservoir Road for a report of an assault in progress and reportedly found a woman outside the residence with visible injuries. A wanted man with 20 outstanding warrants was caught and arrested in Charles City County. On January 28, James City County Police Department released a wanted poster for 22-year-old Tyler Kwan Wallace and announced he had 20 warrants issued between August and December 2024. The charges included abduction, assault and battery, strangulation, and child abuse, JCCPD said. “Despite exhaustive efforts to locate him, Wallace remains at large,” said JCCPD. Cody Hardin, a 31-year-old Williamsburg man, was sentenced Wednesday for impersonating law enforcement while detaining children. James City County Police Department issued a statement explaining that Hardin was arrested last October after the office received a call from a person claiming to be an off-duty police officer, and he said he had two juveniles in the Fenwick Hills neighborhood for suspicious activity. VDOT backtracks on decision to cut Jamestown-Scotland ferry service

VDOT backtracked on its plan to cut service for the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry starting July 8. As previously reported, VDOT planned to reduce service for the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry, which runs 24/7 every day of the year, citing staffing problems. Today, VDOT said the reduced schedule would no longer be implemented. “As staffing and vessel resources allow, the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry will remain operating under the summer schedule that went into effect May 27 to accommodate the increase in ferry passengers during the summer travel season,” the department stated. A 76-year-old Williamsburg woman was killed and her husband hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash in York County. Christine Trena Meeske was driving east on E. Rochambeau, according to Virginia State Police. At a point west of Rt. 143, she was traveling “at a high rate of speed” and hit a 2020 Toyota Camry that was also traveling east. VSP said the preliminary investigation revealed that when the two vehicles collided, Meeske lost control, ran off the road into a ditch, and hit a culvert. That collision caused the SUV she was driving to flip over onto the roof, entrapping the occupants. Meeske died upon impact, VSP said.
