Virginia’s 4th child measles case confirmed, School says unvaccinated stay home

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH)  has confirmed a school age child between 5- and 12-years-old contracted measles. According to the department, the child recently traveled internationally. Beaches from DE to VA close as medical waste washes ashore

Authorities have closed access to waters at beaches from Delaware to Virginia’s Eastern Shore due to debris with medical waste washing ashore. Sunday brought a series of beach closures rolling down the East Coast. The Town of Fenwick Island in Delaware announced swimming closures following reports of medical waste washing ashore from Indian River Inlet to Fenwick Island. The Town said it was sending out an emergency response team. Closures continued through the early days of this week as debris, “including syringes,” reportedly continued washing ashore. Also on Sunday, Assateague Island National Shoreline announced “immediate closures” for swimming and wading closures at all beaches in the Maryland district “due to medical waste on the beach.” Visitors were still allowed to go ...

VDH ends Lake Anna STEC outbreak investigation, reminds public of swimming advisory

Virginia Department of Health (VDH) announced it has ended its investigation into the Memorial Day STEC outbreak without conclusively linking the illnesses to Lake Anna. As previously reported, there were 25 Shinga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) cases that appeared linked to visits to Lake Anna around Memorial Day weekend. Five of those cases resulted in children being hospitalized, and the incidents prompted VDH to launch an investigation that included numerous rounds of water testing from various areas around the lake. Another warning of potential measles exposure in Northern Virginia after 2nd case

For the second time in less than a month, the public is being warned about potential measles exposure in northern Virginia. Maryland health authorities announced there is a positive case of measles in Montgomery County. The infected person is a someone who recently traveled internationally. The groups at risk of potential exposure related to that individual include anyone who was at Washington Dulles International Airport in the International Terminal on January 27 between 6 – 9:30 a.m., health authorities say. As a result, Alexandria Health Department has also issued an advisory about this measles case and the potential of exposure in northern Virginia. Northern VA measles case confirmed: Health authorities trying to notify people at risk

Virginia Dept. of Health (VDH) announced they working to identify and notify people who may be at risk of measles after a confirmed case in Northern Virginia. VDH said a person who traveled through Northern Virginia on the way back from an international trip has been confirmed to have measles. The groups of people VDH cites as potentially exposed include those who were at Dulles International Airport in the international arrivals area of the main terminal between 4 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 3. Those who were at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on January 4 in Terminal A between 2:30 - 6:30 p.m. may have been exposed.
