2 ‘Caretakers’ Charged in Mathews Elder Abuse Case

Two people have been charged in Mathews following an elder abuse call.

On September 2, deputies were dispatched to the Morgan Branch Road area where they found a bedridden 58-year-old with two people living in the home who claimed to be primary caretakers, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

The elder, who hasn’t been named, was transported to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital that night to reportedly receive care for injuries. The Sheriff’s Office did not elaborate on the type or the severity of those injuries.

However, an investigation was launched, and police determined the resident was deprived of adequate care, and over a period of time, the two alleged caretakers had financially exploited the elder.

On September 8, Jason Alexander Mackey Seeker and Chelsea Jade Stein were arrested for

felonious abuse and neglect of a vulnerable adult resulting in serious Injury and financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult by an agent.

An emergency protective order was also issued.

When Stein went before the magistrate, she was released on a $3,000 unsecured bond and Seeker was released on a $3,500 unsecured bond.
