Four teens have been charged for a Spotsylvania shooting that killed three people and sent three others to the hospital, including one of the suspects.
Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office said information about the shooting came in around 5:30 p.m. yesterday (April 9). When officers arrived at the scene near Olde Greenwich Circle in a townhouse complex, they found multiple people shot.
Three individuals were dead, including two 18-year-olds from Spotsylvania, Chase and Alonzo Goffney, along with a 20-year-old, whose name is being withheld pending confirmation from the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Names weren’t provided for the three people transported to the hospital, but Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office revealed one of them is a 16-year-old suspect who was shot during what police believe was an illegal gun sale/robbery.
The other suspects include a 16- and 17-year-old who weren’t named and 18-year-old Jeremiah Upson, of Ruther Glen. Without linking residence to each suspect, SCSO said two of the suspects are from Spotsylvania and two from Caroline. All have been arrested and are being held without bond.
SCSO said the hospitalized 16-year-old has been charged and will be arrested when he’s discharged.
All four of the suspects are charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony unlawful assembly.
Spotsylvania County Schools opened today with a 2-hour delay and increased police presence. Caroline Sheriff’s Office also announced there would be an increase police presence at all of its county’s schools.
