Authorities have released the names and the 66 felony charges filed against the six inmates accused in the May 2 attack on corrections officers at Wallens Ridge State Prison, a high security facility in Big Stone Gap.
The inmates— five of them allegedly members of MS-13 and one a member of Sureño 13—were already serving sentences for violent crimes when they reportedly launched a coordinated assault where two officers were stabbed.

The Virginia Attorney General’s Office is supporting City of Norton & Wise County Commonwealth’s Attorney Brett Hall in prosecuting this case.
“I am thankful the corrections officers who were attacked in this incident continue to heal daily. I commend those who heroically intervened to save the lives of their fellow officers, who rushed to aid their fellow officers in the face of personal danger,” said Hall. “Today’s indictments begin the process to seek justice on behalf of the Department of Corrections officers injured in the line of duty and all those affected by this incident,” he said after the charges were returned.
“Today’s indictments are an important reminder that service by our law enforcement and corrections officers across the Commonwealth is not without daily risk,” added Attorney General Jason Miyares. “On behalf of a grateful Commonwealth, I extend my thanks to all law enforcement for the important and dangerous work they do. “As my office supports the prosecution in this case to seek justice, we are proud of our partners involved in supporting the corrections officers injured in this incident and are thankful for their continued recovery.”
