Portsmouth Police Department reported that one of its new cameras caught a drug deal, and one of the people in that deal was wanted in four cities plus wanted by the Department of Corrections.
Detectives in the Special Investigations Unit reportedly saw 35-year-old Keeshawn Faltz “delivering narcotics to a street level drug dealer,” who wasn’t identified. According PPD, the detectives discovered Faltz was wanted and put an alert into the Flock LPR system for the vehicle he was driving.
On February 1, numerous units of PPD launched an operation “targeting street level narcotics distribution and wanted subjects.” Officers saw the Flock alert for Faltz’ vehicle, and PPD said that vehicle was spotted downtown at a hotel in the 300 block of Effingham Street. No one was inside so officers conducted surveillance.
Later, Faltz returned to the vehicle and police attempted to apprehend him. But PPD said he got away. However, as he was leaving the hotel parking, he reportedly hit a curb and the vehicle broke down in the 300 block of Green St.
When officers approached the disabled vehicle, “he got out of the vehicle with a gun in his hand and fled,” PPD stated. In the midst of his getaway, he fell down, and a shot was reportedly fired from the gun he had.
Once again, Faltz was able to shake police, but citizens helped a police K9 find him hiding in a storage area, said PPD. He still had the gun, so he was given commands to come out.
Ultimately, he was taken into custody without further incident, and no one was injured.
For this incident, Faltz was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, reckless handling of a firearm, felony eluding police, and driving while suspended.
He was also served on charges for which he was wanted including:
- Portsmouth: Robbery, Stalking, Felonious assault, and Domestic Assault.
- Norfolk: Grand Larceny and Domestic Assault.
- Chesapeake: Robbery.
- Virginia Beach: Fail to appear on a felony.
- VADOC: Parole board warrant, Revocation of suspended sentence.
PPD said it has several of the new trailer-mounted camera systems and deployed them at several locations throughout the city.
