Kelvin Jerrod Jackson, a 33-year-old Mineral man, is facing a felony hit and run charge for crashing into a school bus in Caroline and leaving the scene.
The incident occurred on February 7 at about 5:50 p.m. According to Caroline County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), a tractor-trailer hit a county school bus on Sparta Rd. near the intersection of Pendleton Rd.
Deputies arrived on the scene to find the bus driver with “many lacerations on her face.” One of the three high school students who was riding the bus used his clothing to stop the bleeding on the bus driver’s face, CCSO reported.
Video footage obtained from the bus showed a Peterbilt crossing the median and hitting the driver’s side of the bus, CCSO stated. But the truck driver did not stop, police say.
Two days after the incident, with no suspect, CCSO turned to the public for help identifying the truck or driver. That appears to have paid off.
CCSO said it was tips from the community that led to investigators locating the tractor-trailer in Louisa.
Authorities reportedly obtained search warrants to search the truck and obtain paint samples for scientific analysis and to seize and search the owner’s cell phone.
After those warrants were executed, Jackson was deemed the suspect and was arrested and charged with felony hit and run, CCSO announced.
Jackson has been being found guilty in various localities for various infractions, including reckless driving: speeding charges, court records show.
This month, in Louisa, he was convicted on a the charge of being a convicted felon in possession of gun.
He also has an outstanding charge in York County for driving a commercial vehicle in the left lane on the interstate and is facing a DUI in Louisa, court records also show.
