Front Royal man facing murder for his 1-year-old

Nathaniel Lee Edmonds, a 24-year-old from Front Royal, is currently in RSW Regional Jail facing a 2nd degree murder charge for the death of his 1-year-old.

The child died Wednesday, Sept. 18, according to Front Royal Police Dept.

Officers were dispatched to a home in the 300 block of North Royal Avenue at approximately 2:40 p.m. for the report of a child in cardiac arrest, the Dept. stated. When police officers arrived, Warren County Fire & Rescue was already on the scene preparing to transport the baby to the hospital.

FRPD said its officers immediately secured the residence and the Criminal Investigations Division began investigating.

Meanwhile, despite the efforts at Warren Memorial Hospital, the baby was pronounced dead. Investigators extended their investigation to the hospital, FRPD said.

FRPD did not elaborate on where Edmonds was but said deputies from Warren County Sheriff’s Office “located” him and brought him to FRPD for an interview.

“Following a thorough investigation and consultation with the Warren County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office Edmonds was charged with second degree murder under Virginia Code 18.2-32,” FRPD stated.

Edmonds, who had a bond hearing scheduled for yesterday, is being held without bond. He is scheduled to return to court on December 19 for a preliminary hearing.
