Virginia Beach Police Department linked a robbery suspect to a shooting in Chesapeake, and 21-year-old Timothy Eugene Lane Jr. is now facing charges in both cities.
VBPD officers responded to a home invasion robbery call in the 700 block of Brook Meadow Ct. on Oct. 15. The investigation led to Lane being identified as the suspect, and when he was arrested police recovered a gun, the department stated.
That gun was submitted to the ATF’s National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) and was linked to a shooting in Chesapeake that occurred the day before the alleged home invasion robbery, revealed VBPD. The evidence was shared with Chesapeake PD, which then filed charges against Lane too.
For the Virginia Beach incident, Lane is charged with daytime armed burglary, armed robbery, two counts of using a firearm in commission of a felony, wearing a mask, and felony destruction of property.
For the Chesapeake incident, Lane is charged with shooting at an occupied dwelling, vandalism over $1,000, conspiracy to commit vandalism, possession of an auto sear, possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a loaded firearm with extended magazine, reckless handling of a firearm, and willful discharge of a firearm in public.
“We’re thankful to have our own NIBIN equipment that allows us to quickly enter fired cartridge cases to determine if they have been involved in other offenses and share this information with our regional law enforcement partners to keep Hampton Roads safe,” said VBPD Chief Paul Neudigate.
Lane, who is a resident of Blackwood, NJ, according to court records is currently being held in the Virginia Beach Correctional and is deemed unbondable, the records show.
