Atty Gen. Jones Aims to Reverse Action on College Benefits for Illegal Immigrants

Attorney General Jay Jones announced he has filed a motion to withdraw an agreement the former Attorney General Jason Miyares made to settle a Department of Justice lawsuit.

The lawsuit centered around giving college benefits to illegal immigrants, most notably, in-state tuition rates.

Jones said the action was taken during the final moments of Miyares “expiring” administration, but, to the contrary, he made a day one commitment to protect Virginians from federal overreach and to safeguard Virginia students.

“On day one, I promised Virginians I would fight back against the Trump Administration’s attacks on our Commonwealth, our institutions of higher education, and most importantly – our students,” said Jones. “Virginians deserve leaders who will put them the first, and that’s exactly what my office will continue to do.”
