Authorities in James City County are searching for a sex offender who cut off his court-ordered ankle monitor and fled.
Police say Kevin Lavaughn Christian, 50—who also goes by “Kelvin” and “Squirrel”—is wanted for a probation violation for removing his monitoring device and petit larceny charges.
Christian is a registered sex offender, and police warn the situation has escalated due to alarming statements he allegedly made including suggestions that he would rather harm himself than return to jail.
Christian also reportedly threatened to commit robberies and have a violent encounter with police.
Based on those statements and his prior interactions with law enforcement, James City County Police say he should be considered armed and dangerous and the public is urged not to approach him under any circumstances.
Christian is described as a Black male, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall weighing around 205 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
Police say he is known to frequent areas including Chickahominy Road, Burnt Ordinary, and Lafayette Square, and may be traveling with a female. He has a history of fleeing from officers, the department stated.
His last known address was in the 2500 block of Little Creek Dam Road.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact the James City County Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit immediately at 757-259-5157.
