After two shootings in less than two weeks on Wythe Street, Alexandria Police Department announced its boosting police presence in the neighborhood.
The latest shooting occurred Saturday, Sept. 29. APD stated a call came in around 2 a.m. reporting shots fired. When officers responded to the 1100 block of Wythe Street, they found two juveniles shot inside of a vehicle, the department reported.
One of the boys was deemed in stable condition, but the other was considered critical, APD stated. Both were transported to the hospital.
Just over a week earlier, on September 19, APD responded to the 1300 block of Wythe Street in response to a report of gunshots that came in after 8 p.m.
Officers found three people had been hit by gunfire, including one juvenile. As previously reported, APD later reported that one of the men died from his injuries.
Yesterday, APD announced that officers are still actively investigating both incidents. Detectives are pursuing leads, reviewing hours of video, conducting interviews and searches as well as analyzing evidence, the department said.

Public safety measures
Meanwhile, APD said its “taking proactive steps to provide public safety.” That includes increasing daily patrol units and assigning a Neighborhood Resource Officer dedicated to help resolve concerns in the community.
APD said it’s also working closely with Alexandria Redevelopment Housing Authority (ARHA) on this public safety initiative. That collaboration includes strengthening and supporting ARHA’s existing security measures and “leveraging existing technology” on ARHA property and in surrounding areas and boost community engagement with residents.
APD said, “The City is committed to its public safety goals.”
