Jacob Bozeman, a 20-year-old advanced EMT, was killed in an ambulance accident on Thursday.
Bozeman was driving an American Medical Response (AMR) ambulance on Rt. 360 in King and Queen County Thursday morning when a 2000 Peterbilt dump truck pulled onto Rt. 360 from Fleets Mill Road, Virginia State Police reported.
The dump truck, intending to head westbound, stopped in the median to wait on traffic leaving approximately 40 inches of the truck sticking out into the travel lane, VSP added. Bozeman ran into the back rear panel of the truck and the ambulance overturned into the median.

Although Bozeman was wearing his seatbelt, according to VSP, he died at the scene. His co-worker, paramedic Christopher Mack, who was riding in the front and the unnamed 67-year-old dump truck driver from St. Stephens Church, both suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to the hospital, state police noted.
Bozeman and Mack were not responding to a call, and they were not carrying a patient at the time of the accident, VSP also stated.
On Friday, AMR confirmed Mack is recovering. Regarding Bozeman, “Our entire organization is grieving this loss, and we are focused on supporting the families and our local first responders,” the company said.
On Friday, Hanover County Sheriff’s Office posted video footage of a convoy escorting Bozeman home from the Medical Examiner’s. HCSO described it as “a solemn journey to honor his service and sacrifice.”
“The King and Queen community suffered a devastating loss,” HCSO stated.
Virginia State Police said charges are pending as the investigation continues.
