Report of shots fired shuts down highway in Gloucester

On Thursday, Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office shut down the flow of all traffic on George Washington Memorial Highway, aka Rt. 17, due to a shots fired incident. When the Sheriff’s Office initially announced the closure, the public was advised there was a situation involving a male who was close to the highway with a gun that had been discharged several times. GCSO later elaborated noting that a person called 911 shortly before 3 p.m. and reported seeing a male with a rifle who fired at least one shot across the road in the area of 3400 George Washington Memorial Highway. Front Royal man facing murder for his 1-year-old

Nathaniel Lee Edmonds, a 24-year-old from Front Royal, is currently in RSW Regional Jail facing a 2nd degree murder charge for the death of his 1-year-old. The child died Wednesday, Sept. 18, according to Front Royal Police Dept. Officers were dispatched to a home in the 300 block of North Royal Avenue at approximately 2:40 p.m. for the report of a child in cardiac arrest, the Dept. stated. When police officers arrived, Warren County Fire & Rescue was already on the scene preparing to transport the baby to the hospital. Beaches from DE to VA close as medical waste washes ashore

Authorities have closed access to waters at beaches from Delaware to Virginia’s Eastern Shore due to debris with medical waste washing ashore. Sunday brought a series of beach closures rolling down the East Coast. The Town of Fenwick Island in Delaware announced swimming closures following reports of medical waste washing ashore from Indian River Inlet to Fenwick Island. The Town said it was sending out an emergency response team. Closures continued through the early days of this week as debris, “including syringes,” reportedly continued washing ashore. FBI offering reward for info on Truist bank robbery in Leesburg, VA

As the one-year mark approaches since a robbery at Truist Bank in Leesburg, police are making a renewed push for information from the public. The incident occurred at the Truist bank located at 1007 Edwards Free Rd. NE on October 2, 2023. And the suspect, described as a black male, remains unknown, Leesburg Police Department announced earlier this week. Truck crash leaves trailer standing upright in New Kent

A single vehicle trailer-trailer crash shut down part of I-64 West in New Kent for hours on Thursday. According to VSP, at about 9:30 a.m., the truck was heading westbound when, at the 200 mile marker, the raised bed hit the overhead traffic sign. VSP said the bed separated from the cab and remained upright against the damaged highway sign. Gate City, VA man accused of shooting father in the face

A 25-year-old Gate City man is in jail facing a list of charges after an incident that includes allegedly shooting his father in the face. According to Gate City Police Department, deputies were dispatched to 451 Reed Hollow Rd. for a report of a person shot in the head. Deputies reportedly found Bobby Ray Darnell with a gunshot wound to the left side of the face. When police arrived, his son, Travis Ethan Darnell, was sitting in the kitchen area, according to GCPD. Virginia Beach Police Department announced that one of its officers was involved in a fatal incident this week. On Wednesday, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Quarter Way at 10:23 for a drug overdose call, VBPD stated. The first officer at the scene reportedly heard commotion inside the residence and went in. VBPD said that officer found a man later identified as Robert Miller and a female upstairs in a bedroom struggling over a knife. Scott Co. charges for couple accused of killing baby upgraded to murder

The child abuse and neglect charges against 24-year-old Michael Finley and 19-year-old Hannah Danielle Davidson have been upgraded to murder. As previously reported, the Fort Blackmore couple are accused in the death of Davidson’s 7-week-old baby who, according to Scott County Sheriff’s Office, was “critically injured.” A grand jury convened on Monday, and yesterday, August 7, new indictments were served on the pair charging each with a count of felony homicide and a count of 2nd degree murder.
