Powhatan man wanted for hit & run

Virginia State Police identified the suspect in the May 26, 2024 hit and run in Powhatan and is asking for the public’s help to find him. The suspect, Dustin A. Bailey, is a 36-year-old Powhatan resident. According to VSP, he previously worked on Iron Bridge Road in Chesterfield and in the City of Richmond. (Photo: VSP) On the day of that incident, at approximately 10:04 a.m., a 2019 Kia Forte was stopped at a red light on Rt. 60 (Anderson Highway) at the intersection with Luck Stone Rd. and was rear-ended by a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche that reportedly fled the scene. The Forte drive suffered minor injuries according to VSP. Extended closure of Warrenton Rd. in Stafford continues

Stafford County Sheriff’s Office announced Rt.17 (Warrenton Rd.) was closed shortly before 11:30 a.m. this morning due to an accident that resulted in downed power lines. The incident in the area of Lichfield Blvd & McWhirt Loop closed north and southbound lanes. Tractor-trailer kills pedestrian on I-664 in Suffolk

The Commonwealth’s Attorney in Suffolk will determine whether or not to file charges against Demarquese Larnell Hayes, the truck driver involved in the fatal crash on I-664 South in Suffolk on Tuesday, March 4. According to Virginia State Police, it appears 39-year-old Corey L. B. Knight was driving a 2023 Volkswagen GTI, pulled over on the right shoulder of I-664 at College Drive, and got out. Hayes came along in a 2023 Freightliner tractor-trailer and drifted onto the shoulder striking Knight and the Volkswagen, killing Knight immediately, said VSP. Maryland Department of Natural Resources will host an informational meeting on March 13 to gather public feedback on the Mid Atlantic Resiliency Link (MARL), a transmission line that’s slated to stretch from Frederick County, VA to Greene County, PA. According to NextEra Energy, the transmission company responsible for the project, MARL is part of broader effort to strengthen the backbone of the region’s energy grid. The proposed transmission line is expected to stretch about 105 miles and includes adding a new 500/138-kV substation in Frederick County, VA. 2 Blue Ridge Task Force investigations closed with arrests

Two months into 2025, and Blue Ridge Narcotics and Gang Task Force wrapped up two investigations with seizures and arrests. At the end of January, Virginia State Police, a member of the Blue Ridge task force, announced partners ended a lengthy investigation with the arrest of Howard B. Jenkins of Manassas. According to VSP, Culpeper Sheriff’s office and other task force officers stopped a Chevy Tahoe on Route 3 near Yellow Bottom Road in Culpeper for not having a license plate. The driver 43-year-old Jenkins, tried to run but was quickly caught. Unanimous: VA lawmakers want to limit sheriffs using shackles on children in court

Virginia lawmakers have had enough of sheriffs abusing the ability to use shackles on children in court. Now, the question is whether Governor Glenn Youngkin will sign a bill into law that limits the practice. “Virginia law currently allows indiscriminate shackling of children in court. Children are forced to appear weighted down by handcuffs, leg irons, and belly chains,” Senator Lamont Bagby told colleagues in the Committee for Courts of Justice. He acknowledged that the overwhelming number of jurisdictions do not shackle youth at all. DWR K-9 tracks suspect, drugs found, 5 Martinsville men arrested

Henry County Sheriff’s Office credited a Dept. of Wildlife Resources (DWR) K-9 for playing a significant role in a police chase that ultimately led to the arrest of 5 Martinsville men. On Thursday, at around 4 p.m., the Henry County Narcotics Interdiction Unit unsuccessfully tried to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver led deputies on a police chase that spanned for approximately 3 miles, according to HCSO. On Stockton Rd., the driver, now identified as Donovan A. Nibblett, reportedly got out and ran. Poquoson woman charged for drug smuggling attempt at Haynesville Correctional Center

Today, Virginia Department of Corrections announced a Poquoson woman is facing a felony drug distribution charge after a foiled smuggling attempt at Haynesville Correctional Center last fall. On November 22, Kristyn Nicole Mazzariello came to the Haynesville facility to visit a family member for an inmate graduation, reported VADOC. She was stopped, asked to submit to a drug and contraband scan by a VADOC K-9, and the K-9 altered authorities to Mazzariello’s body and inside her vehicle, the department stated. Mazzariello admitted to having drugs and turned over three packages that were previously concealed on her body, which had 90 Buprenorphine and Naloxone strips and 7 synthetic marijuana papers, VADOC reported. ICE warns of taking immigration enforcement in DC & VA ‘extremely seriously’

ICE Washington DC warned it’s taking the immigration enforcement mission in D.C. and Virginia “extremely seriously.” That statement came along with the announcement that seven illegal aliens were arrested in Northern Virginia on Feb. 5 during a joint effort between the Washington DC divisions of ICE and the FBI in Annadale. Information from ICE show that one of those arrested in Annadale was previously deported, a 51-year-old Mexican national convicted of DWI in Prince William last April. One, a 22-year-old Salvadoran, had been apprehended before for illegally entering the U.S. in June 2019.
