A woman and dog were stabbed in Herndon, and the man accused of wielding the knife was shot. All three were receiving medical attention as of the last update provided by Herdon PD.
her husbandOn Sunday, April 14, HPD officers responded to the 900 block of First Place shortly before noon after a woman called 911 to report her husband stabbed her.
HPD said officers established contact with the suspect and he “approached” a responding officer with a knife. That officer shot the man, hitting him in the upper body, the department added.
The husband and wife were both deemed to have “critical injuries,” and they were transported to Reston Hospital. According to HPD, the family’s dog was also found stabbed at the scene.
The officer who shot the suspect was not injured.
In an update, HPD announced the woman was deemed to be in stable condition.
Her husband survived surgery and was recovering in the ICU.
The dog was transported to be emergency, but an update on its status was not able available.
The incident is being investigated by the regional Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT), which is composed of seasoned law enforcement professionals from 11 participating agencies who investigate critical incidents involving law enforcement officers within the cooperating jurisdictions.
