Virginia State Police found and arrested the man who escaped from Eastern State mental hospital.
Glenn Large, Jr., a 50-year-old Williamsburg man, escaped on the morning of July 5 after climbing over the fence that surrounds the perimeter of the hospital, VSP said.
Large has a lengthy history of legal run-ins, including a 1989 murder conviction in Virginia Beach. He was committed to Eastern State after being found not guilty by reason of insanity in 2022 for attempted malicious wounding, indecent exposure, and disorderly conduct charges.

Large was located by James City County Police and arrested without incident on July 7. He was transported to Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail where he was served warrants for two new charges.
Court records show Large was charged by Williamsburg/James City County for grand larceny on July 6.
He was also charged by that same jurisdiction for possession of a stolen vehicle on March 25.
According to Wavy 10, Large was granted a community pass for a weekend in March, but he stayed gone for nearly three weeks.
Large was scheduled to have NGIN review in Virginia Beach on July 8, just days before his escape.
An NGIN review is conducted annually for the first five years after a person is committed following a not guilty by reason of insanity verdict to determine whether the person should remain as an inpatient, be granted conditional release, or fully discharged. That proceeding is now scheduled for August 5.
