Leesburg man to face attempted murder for Maryland road rage shooting

A 22-year-old Leesburg, VA, man is awaiting extradition to Maryland for a road rage shooting on Memorial Day.
Maryland State Police stated that on May 26, at around 6:30 p.m., the College Park Barrack responded to a report of shots fired on I-95 South, just south of Route 198 in Prince George’s County.

The victim told troopers that his vehicle was shot at multiple times during an apparent road rage incident. MSP’s Forensic Sciences Division processed the victim’s vehicle and reportedly recovered a projectile.

Investigators identified Fredy Gonzalez-Esquivel as the suspect. A search warrant was served on his vehicle in Virginia, where police found seven spent casings and seized a firearm. The driver’s side mirror of the Gonzalez-Esquivel’s black Mitsubishi Outlander also had damage police described as “consistent with a projectile fired from the driver’s seat.”

In addition to the driver, there was a passenger in the car that was allegedly shot at. Neither person was injured, police reported.
