Virginia State Police describe the December 13 DUI checkpoint in Madison County as a success.
According to VSP, the joint effort was conducted in collaboration with Madison County Sheriff’s Office at the intersection of Rt. 15 and Rt. 230 from 6 – 10 p.m. The aim, says VSP, was “to enhance public safety and deter impaired driving during the holiday season.”
During the operation, police screened motorists for impairment. No DUI arrests were made, but as a result of the “successful DUI checkpoint,” 26 summonses were issued. Of them, 13 were for not having a valid driver’s license, 10 for expired inspections, 2 for expired registrations, and 1 was for a seatbelt violation.
“We are committed to keeping our roadways safe for all travelers,” said First Sergeant Brooks M. Taylor, Area Commander of the Virginia State Police Area 15 Field Office. “Through strategic collaborations like this checkpoint, we send a clear message that impaired driving will not be tolerated.”
