The man killed last week in a Virginia Beach crash during a police chase was from New York. He was driving a stolen vehicle and was listed as a suspect in a violent crime that occurred the day he died, VSP announced.
The police chase began last Friday, February 23, just shy of 8:30 p.m. State Police attempted to stop a 2024 black Chevrolet pickup truck for reckless driving because the vehicle was reportedly going 92 mph in a 55 mph zone.
The truck was heading south on Rt. 13 in Exmore, a town on the Eastern Shore, and refused to stop, VSP stated. Instead, the truck initiated a police chase and Northampton County officer joined VSP to assist.
VSP said in the midst of the pursuit, it was determined that the truck was stolen out of New York.
When the chase got to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, VSP said its troopers and Northampton officers terminated their chase and the truck continued across the bridge.
Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel Police Department began to pursue the stolen vehicle at that point, and VSP said, after the truck was in Virginia Beach, troopers on that side of the bridge saw the vehicle fleeing law enforcement, and they joined the chase.
The truck turned from Northampton Blvd. to Shore Drive, and, while heading down Shore Drive, the driver lost control and ran into the tree line at the intersection of Shore Drive and Atlantic Ave., VSP reported.
When troopers initially approached the truck to render aid, VSP said the driver was speaking, but he had life threatening injuries and he died shortly after his crash.
Police were left without an identity and had to wait for the Medical Examiner’s Office to ID the man.
Today, VSP announced the deceased driver was Quadri Jackson, a 33-year-old resident of W. 24th Street in Brooklyn. Jackson was identified as the suspect in a stabbing and vehicle theft in Brooklyn the same day as the police chase, VSP added.
The case is still under investigation.
