128 Animals Seized Amid Spotsylvania Cockfighting Investigation
A total of 128 animals were seized as part of a cockfighting investigation, the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office announced.
A deputy responding to an unrelated call for service at a residence in the 6900 block of Old Courthouse Road observed activity believed to be consistent with animal fighting and reported the concerns to the sheriff’s office Animal Control Division.
On May 29, deputies and members of the Virginia Animal Fighting Task Force executed a search warrant at the residence. According to the sheriff’s office, investigators recovered evidence consistent with the operation of a cockfighting enterprise.
Animals seized from the property included 21 roosters, 26 hens, 80 chicks and a Great Pyrenees dog.
