Traffic delays coming for 2 Middle Peninsula – Northern Neck bridges

Upcoming work will cause delays for drivers using two bridges that connect the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula.

Downing Bridge

Starting tonight, Sept. 18, and continuing through the 20th, VDOT is advising drivers to expect overnight delays when crossing the Downing Bridge between Richmond County and Tappahannock.

Due to a scheduled bridge inspection, Rt. 360 running over the bridge will be reduced to a single lane of alternating traffic regulated by an automated flagging device.

Work will occur between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.

If weather interferes with the planned schedule, additional dates will be announced, VDOT said.

Norris Bridge

From Monday, Sept 23rd through Friday, Oct. 25th, VDOT is advising drivers crossing the Norris Bridge between Lancaster and Middlesex to expect daytime delays on weekdays.

Due to an annual bridge inspection, a portion of Rt. 3 over the bridge will be reduced to a single lane Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Traffic there will also be directed with automated flagging devices.
