Yesterday, Colonial Behavioral Health (CBH), in partnership with the Commonwealth of Virginia, broke ground on the Center for Support & Wellness—a $12.5 million facility promised to transform crisis care across the Greater Williamsburg region.
Funded entirely through Governor Glenn Youngkin’s Right Help, Right Now initiative, the center is supposed to offer urgent, compassionate behavioral health services to individuals in crisis.

The facility will serve Williamsburg, James City County, York County, and Poquoson, providing care for up to 24 individuals at a time.
It will house:
- A Crisis Receiving Center for 24/7 stabilization,
- A Crisis Stabilization Center offering short-term residential care,
- A Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Assessment Center to divert individuals from jail or emergency custody,
- A hub for mobile crisis teams that respond directly to homes, schools, and workplaces.

“This groundbreaking is a clear sign of the progress we are making through Right Help, Right Now,” said Governor Youngkin. “Colonial Behavioral Health is expanding its legacy and ensuring that when a Virginian is in crisis, help and hope are never out of reach.”
The Right Help, Right Now initiative is a three-year, $1.4 billion overhaul of Virginia’s behavioral health system. Launched in December 2022, the plan aims to ensure timely access to care by expanding 988 crisis services, integrating emergency response systems, and building a statewide network of crisis centers.

The new Center for Support & Wellness is the only facility of its kind between Glen Allen and Hampton, filling a critical gap in regional services. Last year, CBH served more than 3,500 individuals—underscoring the urgent need for expanded capacity.
“This is the culmination of nearly two decades of local effort,” said CBH Executive Director David Coe. “Today we celebrate the completion of our adult crisis continuum. It’s a great day for this area.”
With its co-located services and community-based approach, the center promises faster care, smoother transitions, and more pathways to recovery.
