VSP Trooper Rammed During Chase Into Maryland

The driver accused of ramming a Virginia State Trooper during a pursuit across state lines on December 29 was identified as Naturi Michon Hayes of Elkridge, MD.

Shortly before midnight a Virginia State Trooper was informed of a stolen vehicle in Alexandria. The trooper attempted to make a traffic stop but the driver’s refusal started a pursuit, according to VSP.

From Route 1 the chase went to I-495 East where the initial trooper was joined by a second trooper.

After crossing the Woodrow Wilson Bridge into Maryland, the two Virginia State Troopers attempted to stop Hayes. Still allegedly refusing, she rammed the initial trooper’s vehicle causing it to crash into the guardrail near Exit 3A, Indian Head Highway.

Maryland State Police had been notified of the incoming pursuit and took over chasing 24-year-old Hayes through Prince George’s County into Howard County with MSP Aviation Command assisting with tracking the vehicle.

Hayes eventually crashed near Washington Boulevard and Meadowridge Road, hopped out, and ran.

MSP said Hayes was caught and arrested by its troopers without incident.

Hayes was transported to a hospital before going to the Prince George’s Department of Corrections.

She is charged with 1st degree assault, attempt by driver to elude uniformed police, failure to stop after accident involving damage, aggressive and reckless driving, and other traffic-related offenses.

The trooper involved in the ramming was also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, per VSP, and was released later that morning.
