Woman seriously injured on I-64 in Norfolk, Police seeking help

On Sunday evening, July 13, a 29-year-old woman was riding on the passenger side of Steven Chapman’s blue Honda Civic. As they were heading west on I-64 near exit 284A, the I-264 Interchange, in Norfolk a trailer hitch came crashing through the windshield and hit the Newport News woman in the face.

Chapman immediately took her to Sentara Leigh Hospital where she was airlifted to Norfolk Sentara Hospital, Virginia State Police reported. She is suffering from serious injuries.

Police believe the hitch came from a white Ford super duty pickup truck that was traveling westbound Interstate 64 prior to the Interchange.

The year of the truck is unknown and the driver is unknown, according to VSP.

They are asking for assistance from anyone who may have information or may have witnessed the incident, which occurred around 8:30 p.m.
