A 16-year-old boy was shot in Spotsylvania County Monday evening, and a 15-year-old suspect was arrested shortly after.
According to the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 6:30 p.m. on September 15 to the 10900 block of Taney Drive in Salem Fields following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found a teenage with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

He was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. No update on his condition has been made available since the initial report.
Major Elizabeth Scott said witnesses provided descriptions of two individuals who may have been involved, and deputies located the pair on a nearby street. While trying to question them, the 15-year-old allegedly made “furtive movements” toward his waistband, prompting a brief struggle.

Deputies recovered a firearm from the teen and detained both individuals.
The 15-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with possession of a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm by a person under the age of 18.
Both the victim and the suspect are students in Spotsylvania County Schools, the Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
