Crash involving escaped cows causes shutdown in Danville

In Danville, the southbound exit from Route toward Caswell County, NC, is closed until further notice due to a tractor-trailer crash this morning involving cows.

Police also requested drivers to reduce speeds and exercise caution in the area of West Main Street, 29 south, and the 29 and 58 bypasses near the Caswell / Danville line.

Danville Police Department said the incident occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m.

The truck, carrying cattle, overturned and the trailer was damaged allowing an unknown number of cattle to escape onto the highways. Authorities estimate over 20 cows got loose.

The Danville Police Department, along with multiple agencies, is actively working to secure the livestock, a process expected to take significant time.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, whose identity hasn’t been released, was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. No charges were announced.
