Virginia State Police released select details but left many unfilled blanks in the report of a traffic stop that turned into a 16-year-old getting shot in an “officer-involved shooting.”
According to VSP, on April 29, Fairfax City Police attempted to make a traffic stop near Burke Station Road and Main Street, but “the suspect vehicle” fled the scene. A state trooper was notified at approximately 12:43 a.m.
VSP did not provide any details about the vehicle or provide a reason for the traffic stop.

After being notified, the trooper went to 9600 Maury Street, the address tied to the registration for the involved vehicle. VSP said the trooper was then joined by two Fairfax K-9 units. It’s unclear if either of those were the officer who originally attempted to make the traffic stop.
The police on the scene reportedly saw a 16-year-old male “near” vehicle and gave commands to stop, but the teen took off.
VSP did not give any details stating the trooper or the Fairfax units chased the boy and, if so, whether it was by foot or vehicle.
After noting the boy took off, the report fast forwards to, “The trooper then tackled the suspect, and during the struggle, one shot was fired.”
According to VSP, the teenager was taken to Fairfax Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
VSP did not provide any details about whether the trooper drew his gun or how a gun was introduced into the incident.
There was also no mention of whether the Fairfax officers were present when the teenager was shot, and whether it was the trooper or a Fairfax officer who shot him. There was no report of anyone being placed on administrative leave.
VSP did not say how far the shooting occurred from where the teenager reportedly “spotted near the car “took off on foot.” And VSP did not confirm the 16-year-old was the individual who allegedly drove off from the traffic stop.
VSP said, for this incident, the teenager is being investigated for unauthorized use of a vehicle but he also had outstanding warrants for probation violation and car theft.
VSP also claimed the boy “a known gang associate” without any explanation of what gang he is allegedly associated with, how so, or any prior gang-related activities or charges.
As of VSP’s last report, charges were pending against the 16-year-old for the April 29th incident but hadn’t been announced.
