2 teens charged after 18-year-old female shot in Henry County

Two teens have been charged following the shooting of an 18-year-old female during a party in Henry County.

On August 3, at approximately 1:50 a.m., Henry County deputies were dispatched to the 1700 block of Chatham Road for a report of shots fired.

Shortly afterward, a young woman arrived at SOVAH Health Martinsville with gunshot wounds. According to Henry County Sheriff’s Office, she came in by personal vehicle, was triaged by medical staff, and then airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

The shooting occurred at a party in a residential neighborhood. In the hours after the incident, Sheriff Wayne Davis told RBS News Now, it was believed to be the victim’s 18th birthday party.

The Sheriff said a dispute spilled from the residence into the highway. Multiple people were shooting, dozens of rounds were fired, and the young woman was shot.

At the time, Davis said there were three persons of interest.

After multiple interviews and gathering evidence, HCSO announced two individuals were arrested and charged for the incident on August 4.

Ty’Marquis Nashawn Kershaw, 18, of Fredericksburg, was charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

A 16-year-old, not named because he is a juvenile, was charged with attempted malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and possession of a handgun under 18.

Kershaw was taken into custody and was being held without bond at Rappahannock Regional Jail while the 16-year-old suspect is being held at the W.W. Moore Juvenile Detention Facility in Danville.

At the time the arrests were announced, the victim was listed as being in stable condition.
