The decision of a witness at a crash scene resulted in him being involved in a crash with a Virginia State trooper, VSP reported.
On Sunday, March 10, shortly before 1 a.m. an unnamed trooper was responding to a call involving an overturned vehicle crash on I-464 west near Military Highway and Freeman Ave. in Portsmouth.
According to VSP, the trooper’s lights and siren was activated.
As the trooper entered onto I-464 from the Military Highway on-ramp, a 2018 Honda Accord was stopped in the travel lane, and the trooper rear-ended it, VSP reported.
C. Dixon, the driver of that Honda, and his female passenger reportedly witnessed the crash the trooper was coming to investigate.
Dixon decided to engage in citizen traffic control and park his vehicle in the travel lane to prevent another vehicle from hitting the vehicle that flipped, according to VSP.
Dixon did have his hazards on, VSP also reported.
Fire and rescue responded to the trooper-involved crash. And although Dixon and his passenger were cleared with no serious injuries, the trooper was transported to Norfolk General Hospital. VSP said the trooper’s injuries were not life threatening.
No charges were filed.
VSP did not provide details about the condition of anyone involved in the crash the trooper was responding to.
