Youth suspected in 2 Montgomery County stabbings

Montgomery County has seen two stabbing incidents within a 10-day span—one in Blacksburg and another in Shawsville. In both cases, the suspects have been young.

Blacksburg Incident

At approximately 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, Blacksburg Police responded to reports of a stabbing in the 900 block of University City Boulevard. Officers arrived to find one individual injured.

The victim was treated at a local hospital and released the following day.

As part of the investigation, authorities executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1100 block of University City Boulevard and identified 20-year-old Ben Plaue of Blacksburg as the suspect.

Plaue was arrested on September 8 and faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated malicious wounding. He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Jail and has a bond hearing scheduled for September 16.

The Blacksburg Police Department said it’s believed the attack stemmed from a personal dispute between Plaue and the victim.

Shawsville Incident

Just over a week earlier, on Thursday, August 28, Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a home in the 2100 block of Mt. Pleasant Road around 4:25 a.m. following a 911 call in which the caller reported she was in distress.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded after being informed the suspect had fled on foot. Deputies discovered a woman at the scene who had sustained stab wounds. She was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A coordinated search effort involving K9 units, drones, and SWAT personnel led to the apprehension of a juvenile suspect at approximately 6:10 a.m. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said the child was taken into custody without incident.

No charges have been announced, and as of the latest report, an active investigation remained underway.
