Alexandria Police capture NC homicide suspect

A 53-year-old Charlotte man wanted in connection with a Huntersville, NC homicide was captured in Alexandria and is awaiting extradition.

On Tuesday, March 19, Huntersville Police reported that officers responded to a scene where a woman was said to be unresponsive in a vehicle on Hylas Lane.

The responding officers found the woman, 55-year-old Sureita Angelia Samuels of Huntersville, had been shot, and she was pronounced dead.

Witnesses reportedly told HPD they heard gunshots then saw a Black man get out of Samuels’ car immediately afterward. They reported that the man got into a black Dodge Ram and left.

HPD said detectives were able to get additional information, including details on the description of the vehicle and the suspect from Walgreens’ surveillance video.

The suspect was identified as Rahman Akbar Ferguson.

Samuels and Ferguson knew each other, HPD reported.

Detectives determined that Ferguson was heading north and traveling through Virginia. HPD contacted Virginia State Police.

According to APD, they received the BOLO at about 10:57 p.m. and spotted Ferguson’s vehicle a little over 40 minutes later. A pursuit ensued.

Ferguson came to a dead end in the 100 block of Madison Street and got out and ran, said APD. This time a foot chase ensued. Officers caught Ferguson on Madison Place.

He is currently being held at the Alexandria Adult Detention Center.

Alexandria, VA police reported that Ferguson was arrested today after an overnight search.
