Racist school message in Gloucester is 2nd on Middle Peninsula this month

Gloucester County Schools Superintendent Dr. Anthony Vladu issued a notice last Friday informing families and staff about a racist incident at Peasley Middle School. Wanted man jumps off James River Bridge, survives

A 29 year-old Suffolk man who was wanted for felony probation violation jumped off the James River Bridge this morning, January 22, in an attempt to avoid arrest but was later caught, Virginia State Police reported. Kelly Golden, Jr. was driving a 2021 Hyundai sedan headed northbound on the James River Bridge, when at around 8:45 a.m., he caught the attention of a DMV special agent who reportedly saw him driving recklessly, VSP noted. That agent attempted to stop Golden, but he allegedly refused. However, traffic had come to a halt because the bridge was opening. An investigation is underway in Mathews after a threatening, racist message was left on the wall in the boys bathroom at Mathews High School. And superintendent David Daniel has come under fire for waiting days to notify the public. Plane makes emergency landing on highway in Northern VA

An investigation is underway after a single-engine Cessna  208 Caravan plane made an emergency landing on Loudoun County Parkway in Sterling near Arcola Mills Drive. Virginia State Police reported that it was notified that the emergency landing was occurring at 12:51 p.m. FAA records show the aircraft, owned by Southern Airways Pacific based in Palm Beach, FL, took off only minutes before from Dulles International Airport and was headed to Lancaster, PA, ABC 7 News reported. VSP said the pilot was able to safely land the plane in the roadway without striking any vehicles. Virginia State Police asking for tips on wanted Chesapeake woman

Virginia State Police is asking for the public’s help to locate a 27-year-old Chesapeake woman wanted for allegedly causing a fatal crash. On December 30, in the early hours, Dominique Chi'qura Goodwin was driving a 2018 Volkswagen heading eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-64 in Norfolk and crashed head-on into a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox, according to VSP. The Equinox was driven Shelby Riddick Walker of Portsmouth who was killed instantly, authorities say. Goodwin is facing an aggravated involuntary manslaughter charge. VSP said it has seen been trying to find Goodwin to arrest her, but those efforts have not been successful. Northern VA measles case confirmed: Health authorities trying to notify people at risk

Virginia Dept. of Health (VDH) announced they working to identify and notify people who may be at risk of measles after a confirmed case in Northern Virginia. VDH said a person who traveled through Northern Virginia on the way back from an international trip has been confirmed to have measles. The groups of people VDH cites as potentially exposed include those who were at Dulles International Airport in the international arrivals area of the main terminal between 4 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 3. Those who were at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on January 4 in Terminal A between 2:30 - 6:30 p.m. may have been exposed. Woodbridge man charged in fatal shooting of his wife, police ask for public’s help

Prince William County Police are trying to piece together what happened to cause a Woodbridge man to shoot his wife, and they’re asking for the public’s help. The shooting occurred on January 6. PWPD reported that, at around 5 p.m., its officers were dispatched to an area hospital where 24-year-old Desire Alexandria Buggs had been brought in suffering from a gunshot and later died. From the preliminary investigation, PWPD said they were able to determine that it was her husband, 24-year-old Daniel Okoe Lawson, who brought Buggs to the hospital. Police also recovered what they believe to be the weapon used to shoot Buggs. After additional investigation, PWPD said it was revealed that Lawson was involved in the fatal shooting of his wife. 2 men charged for dog shootings in 2 neighboring counties

Within days, there were two fatal hunting dog shootings in neighboring counties in Virginia. But the incidents appear unrelated. The first incident occurred on Friday, December 29 in King and Queen County. According to Virginia’s Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR), three hunting dogs were found shot on a property off of Indian Neck Rd. Strasburg police officer shoots & kills 40-year-old woman

Virginia State Police are investigating the fatal shooting of 40-year-old Melissa R. Tompkins at the Ramada on Signal Knob Drive in Strasburg. On Sunday, December 17, at around 11 p.m. a call came in to the Shenandoah County Emergency Communication Center. According to VSP, the caller reported a person acting erratically, damaging property, and threatening people in the hotel. An unnamed Strasburg police officer answered the call and encountered Tompkins in the back parking lot. According to VSP, there was altercation after  between her and the officer.
