US Marshals offering reward for escaped inmate from North Carolina

With the manhunt approaching two weeks, the U.S. Marshals Service announced a reward up to $7,000 for escapee John Matthew Nigh. Nigh, a 37-year-old white male, is wanted for escaping from the Craven County Detention Facility in North Carolina. USMS labeled him armed and dangerous and said he has an extensive criminal history including attempted murder of law enforcement, drugs, and weapons charges. According to Craven County Sheriff’s Office, detention officers discovered Nigh was missing from his cell at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26. Alexandria Police Department announced three juveniles have been charged for the Sept. 19, 2024, shooting on Wythe Street, an incident with three victims, including one who died. “This crime was planned, deliberate, and it was violent,” APD Chief Tarrick McGuire said during a press conference. A 34-year-old man from Stuart had to be airlifted to the hospital after getting shot while allegedly busting his way into an elderly man’s home. Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith reported that James Hazelwood, a 78-year-old who lives on Big A School Road in Stuart, called 911 just after 8:30 a.m. on January 23 to report a man with an iron pipe was outside beating his vehicle. That man, identified as Griffith Coy Goodyear, of Salem Highway also in Stuart, then proceeded to use the pipe to beat the residence and busted out several windows, Smith said Hazelwood reported. Virginia State Police are still searching for 38-year-old Victor A. Caneza who was reportedly involved in two crashes and a police chase in Fairfax on Monday before making a getaway. According to VSP, it was approximately 2:40 p.m. and troopers were working two accidents along Interstate 495 East near Eisenhower Ave when a third crash occurred involving two vehicles. A trooper assigned to the third crash asked the two vehicles to move from the left to the right shoulder as authorities attempted to consolidate all the crash scenes. Six days after 17-year-old Mitchell Harrison Leahey disappeared in Henrico County, VA authorities said he was found safe in Florida. His parents told WTVR CBS 6 they picked him up from work and went to a family therapy session that “kicked up some hard stuff and he was upset and left.” The couple claimed they chased Leahey “for a while” but he hopped a fence and was gone.
