Attorney General Jason Miyares is calling on Virginians who purchased certain generic prescription drugs between May 2009 and December 2019 to check their eligibility for compensation following a $39.1 million settlement with generic drug manufacturer Apotex.
The settlement is linked to allegations that Apotex conspired to inflate prices and limit competition, impacting consumers’ financial well-being.

Execs were partying while patients were paying inflated prices
Virginia is among a coalition of nearly all states and territories filing three antitrust complaints in an effort to combat generic drug price-fixing.
“These pharmaceutical companies conspired to drive up drug prices, harming consumers and jeopardizing our families’ financial well-being. Virginians shouldn’t have to choose between their health and their wallets,” Miyares said.
And the executives involved were reportedly having a grand time scheming on their customers. Miyares said there is a wealth of evidence outlining a web of industry executives, who were competitors, meeting during industry dinners, “girls nights out”, lunches, cocktail parties, and golf outings “to sow the seeds for their illegal agreements.”
