A College Park, MD man is in jail in Fairfax facing a list of charges after allegedly leading Virginia state troopers on a police chase.
The incident occurred Sunday, March 17. State troopers had been alerted that a stolen vehicle may pass along Rt. 1 in Fairfax.
As warned, a state trooper spotted the stolen vehicle at about 3:40 a.m. and activated his emergency lights and siren with plans to conduct a traffic stop, VSP reported. But the car, a gray sedan, refused to stop, sped off, and a police chase ensued.
When the pursuit reached Rt. 1 and I-495, VSP said the vehicle, which was driven by 24-year-old Reggie Philip White, rammed into a trooper’s patrol vehicle twice.
White was then able to get onto I-495 westbound, and according to VSP, he hit the same trooper’s vehicle a third time.
After making his way to I-95 South, the trooper’s vehicle was hit a fourth time, said VSP.
State troopers were eventually able to successfully use a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle White was driving in the I-95 southbound lanes near Exit 167.
White then attempted a getaway on foot, but within minutes, he was caught and taken into custody, reported VSP.
White, who is currently in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, is charged with four counts of assault on law enforcement, four counts of felony hit and run, four counts of misdemeanor hit and run, four counts of destruction of state property, eluding law enforcement, grand larceny, driving without a license, not wearing a seatbelt, and with being a pedestrian on the interstate.
VSP reported that there were two other unnamed individuals in the vehicle with White who were also arrested for outstanding warrants.
