Wednesday’s traffic delays on I-95 North in Prince William ran from rush hour into the afternoon with VDOT reporting the backup being 7 miles long at one point. The cause was a fatal pedestrian crash, Virginia State Police revealed.
VSP said the preliminary investigation found 69-year-old Lloyd R. Felder, of Triangle, was heading northbound in a black Toyota Tundra and pulled off on the right shoulder at the 158 mile marker.
Felder got out of his vehicle, and according to VSP, he “stepped into the northbound travel lane where he was struck by an oncoming tractor-trailer.”
Police said the tractor-trailer driver could not avoid striking Felder, and the man died at the scene.
An active investigation is underway, and VSP said the matter is being investigated as a “possible suicide.”
